Yoga Baratha

It is commonly considered as the counter asana for Sarvangasana. Traditionally Fish Pose is performed with the legs in Padmasana. Since Padmasana is beyond the capacity of most beginning students, we can work with Sukasana.

Technique:

Lie on your back on the floor with the legs in Padmasana or Sukhasana. Using the support of arms lift the chest and place the crown of the head on the mat. Spine arched well and expand the chest. Ensure that both hips are evenly pressurized. Weight should be more on the hips than on the head. Hold the big toes with the fingers if possible. Hold for 30 – 60 seconds. To come down, push the elbows into the floor, release the crown on exhalation. Inhale and release body down. Release the legs.

Benefits:

  1. It stretches the back and tones it, thus relievs the strain from back and back pain.
  2. Useful for Asthma patients
  3. Diabetes.
  4. Very useful for Migraine headaches.

Limitations:

People with heart problem, hernia, severe back condition & also pregnant women should not attempt for the practice.
