Vajrasana

Yoga Baratha

Vajra means diamond & Asana means pose. It’s also one of the very good meditational posture. Usually, breathing exercises like Pranayama, Kapalabhati are done sitting in this position, and it is said that practicing Vajrasana, the body becomes as strong as a diamond.

 

Technique:

  1. Kneel down with lower legs stretched straight backwards and toes crossing each other.
  2. Sit on your heels - such that your buttocks should rest on the heels and thighs on the calf muscles.
  3. Place your hands on your knees in gynana mudra or chin mudra and set your gaze forward with the head absolutely straight.
  4. Close your eyes to concentrate on breathing (observing inhalation and exhalation) and to calm your mind.
  5. Try to stay in this position for a minimum of 5 to 10 minutes.

 

Limitations:

  1. Avoid this asana if you have any knee related problem.
  2. Those with hernia, intestinal ulcers and other diseases of the small and large intestine should practice this pose under teacher guidance.

 

Benefits:

  1. Vajrasana helps better blood circulation in the body.
  2. Improves digestion.
  3. Strengthens the lower back. It also gets rid off back pain, stomach disorder, and urinary problems.
  4. Calms mind and relaxes the nerves.
